    Responsibilities

    Director of Development


    Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director will be a member of the development team and will execute on the development strategy for all sbe brands.

     

    This position is focused on identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and coordinates within a multidisciplinary team involved in the review, approval and finalization of contracts for new hotels and restaurants. Success in the position demands a driving focus on creating key count growth and earnings, a passion to champion new business opportunities that build brand equity and help grow with the right people, in the right locations, and the right sbe brands. 

     

    Key Accountabilities

    • Review and analyze potential hotel conversion, new-build, or acquisition opportunities  to build an effective pipeline of new deals 
    • Oversee all aspects of the development process, including site inspections by brand, market management and technical services representatives, analyzing feasibility and pro forma valuations, and presenting the opportunity for approval to the respective SBE executives. 
    • Negotiations of management agreements, purchase, joint venture, franchise or other agreements with owner/owner's representatives.  Ensure that agreement terms and conditions are acceptable to sbe senior leadership.
    • Work collaboratively with internal appropriate departments to maximize returns on sbe investments in hotel projects.
    • As needed, assist owners and developers to identify and tap sources of financing for hotel acquisition or construction.
    • As requested, participate in the resolution of workout situations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required Experience

    • Five to seven years of real estate development or hotel industry experience with hotel development or related experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively structure and negotiate complex transactions, handle multiple projects on short timetables, and manage allocated resources efficiently and effectively.
    • "Self starting" experience, particularly in a high energy environment.
    • Excellent inter-personal skills and capability of building lasting relationships – both internally within sbe and externally within the hospitality industry – and “pitching” sbe's brands to third parties.
    • Ability to think strategically, critically and analytically, while maintaining an enthusiastic, energetic, proactive outlook and approach to professional life.
    • Mature, professional demeanor, capable of expressing confident, independent judgment, with strong "selling" skills.
    • Strong contact base and excellent reputation in the hotel investment and development sector. 
    • Familiarity with capital markets a plus.

    Education or Certification

    • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Real Estate, Hotel Administration or Business; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
