Fi’lia by Michael Schwartz features honest Italian food highlighting fresh ingredients from the wood grill and hearth, handmade breads and pasta, and a signature tableside Caesar salad. The restaurant celebrates the essence of a Chef Schwartz dining experience – a fresh and pure approach to food and drink served in an unpretentious setting.

The role of a Host/Hostess is to create a perfect first impression on all guests entering the restaurant. Job duties include but are not limited to: control the flow of work in the room by seating guests in station rotation while maintaining guest lists, following and enforcing all restaurant standards, greet guests in a professional manner and inform guests of daily activities; be able to “sell” the hotel and restaurant.   Meet all phone etiquette standards. Handle reservation book, take incoming telephone calls, note reservations and special requests by guests.  

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests and determine the number in their party.
  • Seat guests by finding a clean, available table; pulling out chairs; placing clean/current menu in front of guest, etc.
  • Guide guests through the dining rooms and provide any needed assistance.
  • Move and arrange tables, chairs, and settings and organize seating for groups with special needs.
  • Ensure place settings are appropriate and each guest has a napkin, clean silverware, and any other item that is part of the standard place setting.
  • Check menus to ensure they are current, clean, plentiful, and wrinkle-free.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day, practicing clean-as-you-go procedures.
  • Monitor dining rooms for seating availability, service, safety, and well being of guests.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; and complete safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
  • Speak with others using clear and professional language, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance.
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Leadership team.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

 

Experience

1-2 years Front of the House Food and Beverage experience in similar caliber restaurant.

 

Qualifications:

  • Be able to communicate clearly and understand the predominant languag(s) of our guests. 
  • Punctuality and regular and reliable attendance. Availability to work flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. 
  • Previous restaurant or hospitality experience preferred.  
  • Fluent Bi-lingual technical conversation vocabulary (English/Spanish) would be an asset. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with service team and present specific culinary and wine information to guests.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present operational and motivational information before clients or employees of organization. 
  • Ability to respond to and creatively resolve guest inquiries or complaints.

 

Physical Requirements :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time and move frequently from area to area. Ability to stand for long periods at a time, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. Ability to carry and balance dishware and glassware in the course of service. Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Must be willing to work outdoors in seasonal heat (90F+) or cold as well as inclement weather, and be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
